Colorado Podcasters Meetup - Take Aways

Earlier this week I attended the Colorado Podcasters meetup here in Broomfield, CO. It was a great round table session in which we discussed among other things, how to drive traffic to your podcast. Below is an outline of my take aways from the meeting.

Take Aways

  • There is a great opportunity for cross-pollination between our podcasts’
  • If you have a live podcast that broadcasts several different days a week, be consistent with the time. (I.E. Live Monday, Tuesday and Saturday all at 12:00 MST)
  • If you don’t have a Facebook Page, get one, it’s very important to help connect with your audience.
  • You can lose your audience by sending them directly to the the iTunes Application, because it becomes difficult to connect with them.
  • A popular podcaster (missed the name) was discussed who makes 90% of his revenue from his donation bar with 3% of his audience dontating.
  • Thoughts about having a phone number or maybe a skype contact on your website.
  • [Internal thought] Creating content that is not exclusively time sensitive can add historic value to your podcast. (I.E If you have a site for movie reviews, when the DVD comes out, you may see a second rise in downloads)
  • Thoughts on - What makes our podcast unique?
  • [Tip] Don’t hold back your personality. Many times people are listening to your show because of your personality.
  • With the AAC format you can add Tracking for segments or chapters link
  • [Random] Foursquare check ins don’t seem to add value to your audience, is there a way to change this?

Music Monday Workout Mix #alpha

Here it goes...

I listen to allot of music, I listen to allot of music while I'm working out. However, the trouble is finding the right mix to keep me going, especially when the need something to pump me up at the right moment. A few years ago I used to produce music and DJ just a little. Sadly I haven't given myself the excuse to sit down and mix it up, until now. This post is the first of many DJ mixes to help assist in getting a heavy sweat going at the gym.

Please keep in mind that I'm pretty rusty and fresh to Ableton Live so this mix is far from perfect, but worth a listen. My end goal is to create well produced mixes that fit well within a cardio session keeping tactics like 30x90 in mind with highs, lows, and well spaced resting periods. I want these mixes to be an audio journey in cardio.

Battle of the Shoulder Pads

I recently saw Lady Gaga with a few friends along with my sweet-heart here in Denver, Colorado at the Pepsi Center. Puting the awesomeness of the show aside, I saw alot of fans and the Lady hereself wearing extensive shoulder pads on their costumes, pop-goddess-uniforms if-you-will. In response, I thought I'd throw up a video in recent memory that also contained some radtastic shoulder pads.

Feel free to add any videos with radtastic shoulder pads in the comments. I'd love to add them to the post.

Spark Up!

As a few of you already know a couple months ago I left my job at VideoBloom to take the entrepreneurship dive.

Why did I do it?

Although it wasn't the easiest decision, as I really enjoyed working with my new found friends and colleagues (Bloomers) at VideoBloom, It was simply time to take the leap. I had dreamt about starting my own business for a long time, and as the years passed by, I knew it was time to make the move. It was starting to feel like an incredible game playing on the field and I was watching from the sidelines. I became inspired by number of incredible upstart's taking chances, starting companies, making their mark, making a difference, winning or losing, and starting again. I wanted to be a player in that game.

If you check-out my previous post you will see that I have initialized a "Blog Awake", which is my way of saying, I am going to post more content about what I learn, what I fail at, and what I succeed at. I would like to invite you to follow me on my journey as I hope it to be a long and fruitful one.

I also need to add that I am incredibly lucky to have the support of my sweet-heart and my parents on this journey.
